Distance education: Rates and conditions

The purpose of our distance education is to provide you with training material as and when you need it. In addition to regular lessons and exercises sent out fortnightly, the courses include weekly consultations by email in which the trainer will specifically address your problems and goals. We can also arrange for specialised courses or alter the timing of material to suit your requirements. You may start a course with us at any time.

Note that course fees are payable in advance once agreement is reached upon a schedule of material. Rates may vary from one course to another, but the following can be taken as an indication.

Rates:

One term (13 weeks) of 7 lessons and weekly feedback -- $350 plus GST.

Conditions

Students will be expected to:

  • Meet the specified course prerequisites
  • Have properly maintained and up-to-date PCs available; the trainer cannot take responsibility for ordinary PC maintenance or repair
  • Have adequate permissions to install Linux and Linux programs on their PCs
  • Have reasonably fast and unrestricted access to the Internet for downloading applications and documentation

Where these conditions are not met it may be necessary to cancel the course.

Extra charges

Extra charges may be incurred for:

  • Additional course material prepared for specific purposes
  • Prolonged consultation over and above the regular weekly emails
  • Home visits to clients
  • Telephone consultations

Additional work of this kind by the trainer will generally be charged at a rate of $60 per hour plus GST, unless otherwise agreed upon beforehand.

Cancellation fees

Courses cancelled by the trainer, or by mutual agreement between client and trainer, will attract no charges. Courses cancelled by the client will attract charges as follows:

  • Cancellations more than 10 working days before the commencement of term -- 15% of a standard course fee.
  • Cancellations 6-10 working days before the commencement of term -- 25% of a standard course fee.
  • Cancellations 1-5 days before the commencement of term -- 35% of a standard course fee.
  • Cancellations on or after the commencement of term -- no refund.

Payment options

Invoices will be sent to all clients. Payment may be made by:

  • Cheque
  • PayPal
  • Direct credit to our account
